PRETTY LITTLE KILLERS
The Keepers
prettylittlekillers

The predators become prey in a breathless novel of revenge from a USA Today bestselling author.

Still haunted by his wife’s murder—and stained by the blood of avenging it—FBI special agent Hatcher McGee can’t believe he’s being teamed up with rookie agent Korine Davenport. She is his most guilty secret—the one-night stand who almost cost him everything.

Korine has her own demons. As a child, she witnessed her father’s murder, and she’s spent her life waiting for the killer’s return. She and Hatcher are both looking for closure, but the disturbing case that draws them together could be their last.

When the mutilated body of a corrupt Savannah judge surfaces, Hatcher and Korine find themselves on the trail of a vigilante who is showing no mercy. Not for the predators who’ve gone free. And not for anyone who gets in the way.

As the body count rises, and as Hatcher’s and Korine’s own pasts unfold, they must risk their lives tracking a killer they’ve come to understand all too well. After all, the ends justify the means.

BOOK CLUB QUESTIONS

The premise of the Keepers series evolves around vigilante killers seeking justice for their loved ones who were victimized.

How far would you go to protect or get justice for your own loved one?

  1. Who was your favorite character of the book and why? Is there a particular character you can relate to?
  2. Who was your least favorite character and why?
  3. The characters – Liz, Rachel, Laura, Kendall and Beverly — have a special connection to the Keepers. Discuss each of their characters, their role in the story and how the frustrations of their jobs affect their attitudes.
  4. Special Agent Korine Davenport became an agent to find her father’s killer. If she’d known the truth about her past, do you think she would have made the same decision? Discuss her relationship with her mother and brother, each of their family roles, and how family secrets can affect a family’s relationships with one another and others in their lives.
  5. Guilt has driven Special Agent Hatcher McGee over his wife’s death, and he may have crossed the line in tracking down her killer.  His own experience renders him torn over arresting the vigilante killers and applauding their actions. How do you feel about taking justice into your own hands?
  6. What draws Korine and Hatcher together?
  7. Do you think it was right for Cat’s mother to force her to keep quiet about what happened to her as a child? Why did Cat destroy the dolls?
  8. The music box and dolls create imagery in the story and trigger memories for the characters (Cat, Korine and her brother)  – explain how they are entwined in the story line and add to the suspense.
  9. Cat’s mother and Korine’s mother formed a special friendship from what happened to Cat. Do you think people can bond over a shared traumatic experience?
  10. The setting of the story takes place on a remote island off the coast of Georgia. Settings – smells, visual elements, weather, etc. — can elicit different emotions. Describe the atmospheric elements you think enhanced the mystery and suspense.  What conditions (weather, places, smells, tastes, touches, etc.) evoke your own emotions – good and bad?
  11. While Tinsley Jensen is a secondary character in this book, she and her blog about the man who abducted and tormented her – the Skull – contribute to the Keepers’ motivation. Her fear of being confronted by her rapist again is so strong she becomes an agoraphobic.
    • Do you have any fears that affect your daily life?
  12. Do you think the characters in the story get happy endings? Receive justice?
